Methodist Church building, 7 Enfield Center Rd.West
MISSION:
The mission for the new use of the building as an Activity
Center would be twofold: one, to exhibit Paul McMillan's oil
paintings and sculpture, providing a place to create, teach,
and show area artists work; and two, to serve as center where
artistic and community activities can take place, honoring the
previous identity of the church building as a location where
people regularly came together in activities of faith, hope,
mutual support, good works, and community building.
VISION:
The ultimate vision for the building use would be that it would
become, over time:
- a place where both art and a sense of community flourish.
- a place where artists can feel supported in their need to keep
growing and exploring their art forms, in a venue where inclusively
is the guiding idea and costs to use the space are not prohibitive.
- a place where such community events as dances, art showings,
art classes, music events (at a volume not disruptive to the
community), readings, celebrations, etc. could be arranged for
a very reasonable fee.
- a place where the previous identity of the building is honored
by a respectful preservation of the church art and furnishings
and a ready welcome for its previous parishioners; where the
congregation who attended church here could not only visit, but
reasonably avail themselves of the church should they wish to
hold events in the space.
-a place that builds a sense of community and encourages the
idea of the arts as an integral and non-separate aspect of the
fabric of a healthy community.
